Overview

Overview

Subterranean multimodal transit hub delivered adjacent to sensitive historic architecture.

Construction of a major subterranean multimodal transit interchange directly beneath an active downtown commercial corridor. The project required deep foundation excavation extending 68 feet below grade within 12 feet of adjacent century-old historical masonry structures. Maintaining continuous geotechnical stabilization and zero disruption to surface vehicular and pedestrian traffic were mandatory contractual conditions.

Our geotechnical teams designed a comprehensive support-of-excavation (SOE) program tailored to prevent ground movement while structural crews installed heavy reinforced cast-in-place retaining systems.

Our Strategy

Our Strategy

Precision tangent secant piling paired with real-time geotechnical telemetry.

Engineered a continuous tangent secant pile perimeter retention wall combined with multi-stage high-pressure jet grouting to create an impermeable cutoff barrier against groundwater ingress. Automated vibrating-wire piezometers, inclinometers, and robotic total stations monitored soil displacement continuously, streaming telemetry into structural finite-element models to dynamically calibrate tieback pre-stress levels.

Below-grade underpinning operations utilized micro-piles drilled through existing basement footings to transfer structural loads to solid bedrock before open-cut excavation reached full depth.

Our Strategy

Our Strategy

Zero structural deflection and early handover on deep foundation civil works.

The excavation successfully reached design depth without a single recordable settlement or lateral deflection event on surrounding historical buildings. Structural concrete foundation pours commenced ahead of the baseline critical path schedule, keeping civil utility relocations fully synchronized with regional transport authority milestones.

Delivering 850,000 square feet of sub-zero logistics space in ten months sounded unrealistic on paper. Their 4D BIM clash coordination eliminated rough-in rework entirely, and the wireless concrete maturity sensors let us get our automated racking teams on the floor weeks ahead of schedule. The slab tolerances are flawless.
