Overview

Overview

Capacity expansion of critical treatment infrastructure under continuous live operation.

Capacity expansion of an active industrial wastewater treatment facility to process 45 million gallons daily of municipal and manufacturing effluent. The scope involved constructing post-tensioned aeration basins, high-rate clarifiers, ultraviolet disinfection chambers, and deep underground process piping while keeping existing processing operations fully uninterrupted.

The facility sits in a low-lying flood plain, requiring extensive dewatering systems and reinforced concrete designed to withstand continuous chemical attack from hydrogen sulfide and acidic compounds present in raw wastewater.

Our Strategy

Our Strategy

Live bypass sequencing and high-durability microsilica concrete mix engineering.

Developed a multi-stage bypass pumping plan and executed commercial diving inspections for wet-well tie-ins to maintain operational continuity during chamber tie-ins. Concrete mix designs incorporated high-durability microsilica admixtures, fly ash replacement, and crystalline waterproofing barriers to protect reinforced rebar cages.

3D spatial scanning mapped existing underground utilities and buried duct banks, eliminating strike hazards during deep clarifier excavation. Sequence modeling ensured that each newly poured aeration train underwent hydrostatic leak testing and biological seeding before the adjacent legacy basin was decommissioned for overhaul.

Our Strategy

Our Strategy

Continuous municipal compliance maintained through 18 months of heavy civil construction.

All primary treatment stages remained fully operational throughout the 18-month construction cycle, maintaining continuous regulatory compliance with regional environmental quality standards.

Uninterrupted continuous processing capacity maintained across all phases. Upgraded daily effluent handling capacity successfully commissioned. Environmental discharge exceedances or regulatory compliance citations

Direct cost savings

Retrofitting a 22-story mid-century concrete tower in the middle of a dense downtown core required surgical precision. Their hydro-demolition and carbon-fiber reinforcement strategy saved us over $2.4 million compared to a teardown, all while preserving 4,200 metric tons of embodied carbon.
